The Best Skirt for your Body Type

The Best Skirt for your Body Type

Dressing modestly and staying fashionable means finding clothing that fits your body well, just as it would for any woman that wants to look modern and stylish. That means knowing your body shape and finding skirts that flatter your natural curves or lack thereof!

When it comes to skirts, there are a variety of designs to choose from, including A-line, high-waisted, form-fitting, pencil skirts and more. Finding the right style starts with looking at the different types of body shapes.

Apple shape which generally means you have a slim lower body and carry your weight around your middle works best with high-waisted skirts. The high waistband will hit the smallest part of the torso and mask the mid-section. If you can find a skirt that is flouncy or has pleats than that will only add more to the total image and help give a lengthened look to the body shape.

The Banana shape (similar width for the waist, hip, and shoulders) does best with form-fitting skirts. Body-conscious skirts with a fun or loud pattern compliment this body type. Keep the shape of your skirts narrow and that will allow your natural curves to speak on their own.

The hourglass is that iconic shape that looks so great in a long pencil skirt. This body shape with a heavier bottom and a well-defined waist has a skirt specifically designed for her. Skirts with a peplum look especially great as they draw all the attention to your waist and give a perfect space for your lower half. Don’t get caught up in the office style of these pencil skirts, patterns and textured fabrics allow you to take advantage of all the length.

Misconceptions of Modestly Dressed Women

Misconceptions of Modestly Dressed Women

It seems there are many misconceptions about women who choose to dress modestly. Especially with fashion trends implying that modest clothing is simply that, a trend. Of course, women are and have always been under scrutiny for showing too much skin or not showing enough skin, which goes to show that women cannot escape the natural tendency for men and strangers to judge a woman’s dress.

Often dressing preferences are dictated by mood, weather or even a lack of clean laundry! Recently there are more and more women favoring clothing and designs that are considered modest, baggy sweaters, long maxi skirts and those Peter Pan collared button ups. Many of these trends became popular simply because designers were lacking a plunging neckline in their lines.

Feminism has taken the brunt of the blame when it comes to emerging modest trends although it’s easy to prove that fashion has had moments of modest influence almost every few decades. Feminists are feminists because of the need and outstanding lack of equality that exists for women who work or play as hard as men. Dressing modestly, therefore, would have nothing to do with Feminism and rather be a choice made by women to empower themselves. Actively disobeying some unspoken rule about how women should dress or behave is likely the last reason a woman would choose to dress immodestly.

Staying Fit, Comfortably and Modestly

Staying Fit, Comfortably and Modestly

So much of exercising is in the gear, when you have comfortable clothing to wear it is easier to get motivated to get out and go for a jog or hit the gym. With the summer upon us, getting outside for a run can be even more daunting with the heat and the beaming sun. Finding workout clothing that is both comfortable and modest, now THAT is daunting.

Considering leggings are a necessity for modesty when running or doing crunches at the gym, often times women that choose to dress modestly find themselves wearing layers. Some layers work, but some can drag you down. Then of course, the fabric, just like swimming, the fabric can be crucial in providing comfort or even UV protection when running outside.

Finding the perfect outfit that will encourage you to exercise as opposed to keep you from getting out is a good step to help you meet your fitness goals.  Afterall, the modest woman needs just as much to stay in shape as any other women. Dressing modest does not mean frumpy!

Summer Is Here and so Is the Beach!

Summer Is Here and so Is the Beach!

Does being modest mean you have to feel like the black sheep at the beach? The beach is notoriously known as a THE place to get down to your skivvies. In fact, when it is hot and you are dying to jump into the ocean or a lake, the last thing you want to worry about is how to stay modest!

And yet, many women do have the desire to remain modest at the beach. Beyond the need to stay covered, wearing cotton into the water, at the beach or pool just does not work. Once your shirt is wet and you sit down in the sand, that is it, you are doomed to feel like you are carrying around a sandbox. At the pool getting in and out with soaked clothing is like pulling a whale out with you! Having the ability to wear something comfortable, light, modest and fast drying is crucial for the modest and fashion forward woman that still wants to cool off.

Finding a modest bathing suit in nylon, spandex or lycra is ideal. This way you can enjoy swimming without clingy material, laying in the sand and brushing it off and most important, fast drying! Investing in a modest swimsuit can make the difference between a boxed in, air-conditioned summer and a sunny, adventurous one!

Women Must Dress Modestly for Themselves, Not For Men

Women Must Dress Modestly for Themselves, Not For Men

Who is it that women must dress modestly for? Sure, pleasing God plays a factor for those who choose to be religious, but what/who else?

Most modern feminists would argue that every woman deserves to be treated with respect, no matter what she wears. The general consensus is that a woman who dresses modestly is one who radiates virtue and class. Additionally, dressing modestly can make any woman feel empowered and it can also show others her true value.

Unfortunately, many young women who are coming-of-age feel the need to wear revealing clothes just to attract a man’s attention. Instead of dressing in a revealing way with the intent to provoke lust, women should dress in a way that will boost her own self respect. A truly modest woman turns heads with what is in her heart, not by revealing her body. But again- she must know that the intent shouldn’t be to turn heads in the first place. Women should dress modestly, first and foremost, for themselves.

We have previously written about how dressing modestly can change the world around the wearer. It serves as an expression of morals and beliefs. It also lets it be known that there is far more to them than what meets the eye.

Dressing modestly certainly does not mean dressing in a manner that isn’t flattering. You can make amazing and bold fashion statements while staying covered as well! You should never feel the need to dress modestly if the only reason is for a man to respect you. Instead you should dress modestly for your own self-confidence, which will blossom from within.
